French bookstores to discover in Dubai

4 November 2025

Life in Dubai is intense, modern, and full of new experiences. But for francophone expats, there are times when you crave the comfort of a good book in French, a magazine, or simply the pleasure of flipping through a novel over a cup of coffee.
The city, cosmopolitan and open-minded, offers several options for French book lovers — from bookstores and cultural spaces to online solutions.

Kinokuniya Bookstore

Located in the Dubai Mall, the Japanese bookstore Kinokuniya is a true treasure trove for book lovers.
Its French-language section is one of the most extensive in the city — novels, children’s literature, comics, essays, art books… you’ll find it all, including new releases straight from France.
It’s also a pleasant place to browse, discover international authors, and enjoy a quiet moment surrounded by books.

Alliance Française de Dubaï

The Alliance Française remains the cultural heart of the francophone community in Dubai.
Its media library offers a wide selection of French books — novels, comics, magazines, children’s literature, and audiovisual materials.
Membership gives you access to physical loans as well as the online library Culturethèque, allowing you to read from home.
It’s also a welcoming space that regularly hosts book clubs, screenings, and literary events.

General Bookstores and Concept Stores

Some general bookstores like Borders or Magrudy’s also offer a few French titles, usually within their foreign literature sections.
In addition, certain francophone concept stores or cultural cafés in Dubai — such as Comptoir 102 or Cassette — sometimes feature a small selection of French magazines and books to browse on-site.
These spots provide a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for reading and feeling a little bit like home.
