Hong Kong is a city where cultures, languages, and influences from all over the world come together. Yet when living abroad, it can be comforting to rediscover the charm of a French novel, the cover of a comic book, or the familiar tone of a magazine from France.
Good news: Hong Kong is home to a few special spots for francophone readers — from bookstores and media libraries to online options.
Parenthèses Bookstore
It’s the go-to spot for francophones in Hong Kong. Founded in 1989, Parenthèses Bookstore is much more than a shop — it’s a true cultural hub.
You’ll find a wide range of French books — literature, children’s books, cookbooks, philosophy, comics — as well as a fine selection of English titles.
The bookstore also hosts author talks, book signings, and cultural events throughout the year, making it a warm and welcoming meeting point for the francophone community.

English Bookstores with French Sections
Some of Hong Kong’s major international bookstores, such as Bookazine or Kelly & Walsh, dedicate a few shelves to French books — especially children’s titles and literary classics.
Even though the selection is limited, you can still find some wonderful gems, often imported directly from Europe.
